The Morkie crosses the Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier, creating a tiny companion with surprisingly big attitude. They're typically bold and confident like Yorkies but sometimes gentler like Maltese. Because of their tiny size, they can be easily injured and are generally not recommended for homes with very young children or large, rough-playing dogs.
Short walks and indoor play suffice. Their long, silky coats require daily brushing and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. They can be yappy, territorial, and prone to small dog syndrome without training. Many have dental issues and luxating patellas. They're companion animals who bond intensely with one or two people. For singles or couples wanting a portable, devoted companion who can live anywhere, Morkies are affectionate but need gentle handling.
