The Mountain Feist is a small treeing squirrel dog from the rural South, bred for hunting small game. Despite their small size (10-30 pounds), they're intense, high-energy hunters with strong prey drive. They're tenacious, vocal, and always alert.
Daily vigorous exercise through hunting, long hikes, or intense play is necessary. Their short coats are low-maintenance. They're barky, chase everything that moves, and need secure fencing. Some are scrappy with other dogs. They bond closely with their people but aren't cuddly lapdogs. For squirrel hunters or very active rural owners, Feists are tireless companions. For typical pet homes, their intensity and vocalization are overwhelming.
